Do bamboo straws have an aftertaste?
The woody aftertaste that people experience when using a bamboo straw is because some manufacturers dry their bamboo in a “fire room”. The fire dries the bamboo, but the smoke mixes with the wood and creates kind of a smoky woody taste. Jungle Straws bamboo straws are dried using an electric oven which not only gets rid of the woody taste problem, it also reduces the weight of the bamboo as more water is drained, which ultimately means they can be shipped using less Co2.
How do you clean a bamboo straw?
We provide a cleaning brush that is specially designed to fit inside a Jungle Straw. To clean, use warm soapy water and gently push the cleaning brush in and out of the straw until water runs clearly through the straw. Alternatively, pop your Jungle Straws in the dishwasher.
Where are the bamboo straws made?
The farm Jungle Straws works with is very humble and run by a single family that has owned the land for generations. They grow the bamboo using only water and sun and process everything by hand. The boom in demand for bamboo straws has given a much needed boost to this sleepy village in rural Vietnam and Jungle Straws are proud to say that they have worked closely with the same farmers since the company started.
Why use bamboo?
There are over thousand species of bamboo. This amazing plant grows in tropical and temperate environments and is very hardy, not needing pesticides or herbicides to grow well. It is a type of grass and grows from it’s roots, when it is cut it quickly grows back with most species maturing in 3-5 years. Bamboo is great reminder that nature is the best resource for all of our food and product needs.
